Food Fair | Spring Clean Up | Adopt A Family | Veterans' Memorial

Scholarship Fund Food Fair & Chinese Auction

The first annual Scholarship Fundraiser was held April 19, 2009 at the Sound Beach Firehouse. The well attended event was made possible by the generous support and participation of many establishments, groups and individuals. The Sound Beach Civic Association would like to thank:

  • The students and staff of the Rocky Point School District who donated their time and talent to entertain us.
  • The many establishments in Sound Beach, Miller Place, Mount Sinai and Rocky Point who generously provided the fabulous “tastes.”
  • The vendors who donated the great prizes.
  • The individuals and businesses who donated seed money to get the event off the ground.
  • The many volunteers who donated their time and talent.

We look forward to everyone's participation to make this annual event a great success and help raise the scholarship funds for two deserving Sound Beach high school seniors.

Spring Clean Up

We participate in an Annual Sound Beach Spring Clean Up at the end of April in association with the Sound Beach Property Owners’ Association, the St. Louis de Montfort Church, the Sound Beach Fire Department and the Town of Brookhaven Highway Department. Participants show up next to Hartlin's Inn on New York Ave, on the designated date & time, receive gloves, trash bags and locations to clean. Large items are picked up by the Town of Brookhaven and removed immediately.

Adopt a Family

We sponsor multiple ‘Adopt-A-Family’s’ each Christmas Season to brighten the needy families’ Holiday Season. Anyone wanting to contribute can mail their donation to us at PO Box 295, Sound Beach, NY 11789 or they may bring their donation to the meeting. Checks should be made out to the Sound Beach Civic Association. Please indicate on your check that it is a contribution to the Annual Adopt a Family drive (include the year). Collections start in October and continue through Christmas.

Veterans' Memorial

Rocky Point students playing TapsFor the last five years, we have been coordinating a local Veterans Memorial Project for the Sound Beach community to honor all veterans. In cooperation with elected officials from the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, and New York State, we have secured financial aid in the form of grants from both Suffolk County and New York State. The Town of Brookhaven has allowed us to place the Veterans Memorial on Town land, expanding the Basketball Park on Kerry P. Hein Blvd. (New York Ave.). Without the cooperation of all, this lasting tribute would not be possible.

Six flag poles, a granite memorial wall, and landscaping have been installed. Still to come is a bronze plaque for each KIA, a bronze statue of a Civil War soldier from the area that would later become Sound Beach, and a town clock. As soon as we can resolve the acquisition of our grant money from New York State we will be proceeding with the purchases. Memorial bricks that will be installed on site are now being offered for sale to the public to honor the memory of friends, loved ones, and veterans. (Download a Memorial Brick Order Form)

We gratefully thank all the volunteers that contributed to the memorial thus far and to Rich Brons of Brons Landscapes, who donated time, materials, and manpower in the landscaping.
